Common causes of hair loss are generally due to a lack of oxygenated blood supply to the scalp and resulting malnourishment of the hair follicle, which can be triggered by a number of conditions. Physical or mental stress can cause hair loss. The hair follicle enters the telogen phase prematurely, stopping hair growth and accelerating shedding.
